We are delighted to share an opportunity to learn mediation skills with a cohort of City and County elected officials and administrators.  Trainees find this course invaluable in their professional lives, in formal mediation settings and for daily conflict management.

Mediation is a flexible and creative process that helps people find mutually acceptable resolutions to problems. The mediator is an impartial party helps participants communicate effectively, explore underlying interests and craft constructive outcomes.

The course will hone your conflict management skills, teach skills to foster productive dialogue and demonstrate new ways to address issues within City or County government, or with citizens.

Participants learn a five-step mediation structure and discuss the causes of conflict, cultural issues in mediation and ethical concerns. Training participants experience a supportive learning environment that includes hands-on exercises, group discussion, multimedia presentations and simulations with individualized feedback from experienced coaches.

Our trainers, Aimee Gourlay, JD, Collaboration Services Manager at the League of MN Cities, and Susan Mainzer, JD, Mediation Center, are joined by other experienced mediation coaches who create an engaging atmosphere that encourages experimentation and participation.
